Caroline Milne, MD, MBA, Vice Chair for Education and Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program, has been awarded the Mastership (MACP) by the American College of Physicians (ACP).
Mastership is one of the highest honors bestowed by the ACP and is reserved for a select group of physicians who have demonstrated exceptional achievement and impact in internal medicine. Recipients are nominated by their peers and selected based on enduring contributions to clinical care, medical education, healthcare leadership, research, and community service.

Dr. Milne’s national reputation as an outstanding educator and physician leader makes her a truly deserving recipient of this honor. Her commitment to mentoring the next generation of physicians, advancing the educational mission of the University of Utah, and serving the profession through the ACP, reflects the core values of Mastership: integrity, leadership, and service.
This honor places Dr. Milne among an elite group of only 15 physicians from Utah who have received this distinction since its inception. Past recipients include influential leaders in the Department of Internal Medicine, such as Maxwell Wintrobe, MD, PhD; William Odell, MD, PhD; Merle Sande, MD; Kathleen Cooney, MD; and Thomas Caine, MD.
Beyond Utah, Dr. Milne joins a historic group of national physician leaders who have helped shape the field of internal medicine, including Don Seldin, MD (UT Southwestern), Robert Petersdorf, MD (University of Washington), Holly Smith, MD (UCSF), Eugene Braunwald, MD (Brigham and Women’s Hospital), Anthony Fauci, MD (former NIAID Director), and Lisa Bellini, MD (University of Pennsylvania), among others.
“The department celebrates and honors Dr. Caroline Milne for this most rare of awards, recognizing her national excellence in education and her exceptional service to the American College of Physicians,” said John Inadomi, MD, Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine.
